MISS MAURITIUS 1994 COMMITTED SUICIDE!!!

Viveka Babajee, a former Indian supermodel, committed suicide by hanging herself at her Bandra residence late Friday night, a family friend said.

Confirming the suicide, Additional Commissioner of Police (Western Region) Amitabh Gupta said the reason behind Viveka taking the extreme step was not known and police were investigating.

Fashion designer Rohit Verma said she was supposed to take part in his fashion show next month and he was shocked to hear the news of her death.

Viveka, 32, was declared a supermodel in 1994 and was one of the most-sought after faces nationally and internationally in the fashion world.

She was Miss Mauritius in 1993.

She was once a household name in the Philippines when she got involved in the infamous Manila Film Festival awards scam with her unforgettable line, "Take it, take it!"

Babajee, who featured in several advertisements and a couple of Bollywood films between 2000 and 2004, was suffering from depression, it is learnt. The police have recovered a suicide note from the house.

According to the police, Babajee had shifted base to Mauritius a couple of years ago. She was staying alone in Mumbai.

Neighbours got worried on Friday as Babajee did not answer the door bell despite repeated attempts, and the smell of gas was emanating from the apartment. “Finally, the neighbours alerted the police who rushed to the spot and broke open the door. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan,” said Amitabh Gupta, additional commissioner of police, West region.
